Šafránek Is the First Surprise of the Tournament
05.06.2018 14:38:57 | Václav Šafránek and the third seed Roberto Carballes of Spain opened the today’s programme on the Centre Court. The highest ATP ranking of the twenty-five-year-old native of Tenerife has been 72 this year. He also won his first title on the ATP tour in Ecuador and played the quarterfinal in Estoril, Portugal. The Spaniard started aggressively and was more accurate in rallies. He broke Šafránek’s serve right at the beginning, saved his and took the lead to 3:0.

Another Czech to Appear in the Main Event
05.06.2018 14:08:46 | Constant Lestienne of France retired from the main event of MONETA Czech Open. He could not play Gerald Melzer of Austria in the first round due to his groin injury. He has been replaced by the lucky loser Marek Jaloviec who became the sixth Czech to appear in the schedule of play of the Challenger in Prostějov.

Three Czechs on the Centre Court
04.06.2018 18:40:12 | Václav Šafránek and the third seeded Carballes Baena (76th ATP) will open tomorrow’s programme of MONETA Czech Open on the centre court. Then, Adam Pavlásek will meet the second seeded Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay who is currently No. 75 ATP but was No. 19 on 15 August 2016. Adam Pavlásek miraculously broke his bad season at the Challenger in Rome in mid-May. He won the title and qualified to the main event at Roland Garros where he played the first round. “It’s a nice change to be back in form and enjoy the feeling of winning matches again. I’ll really be very happy if I can maintain my current form,” said Pavlásek.

Kukushkin and Kolář Advance to the Second Round
04.06.2018 18:25:06 | Michail Kukushkin, the seventh seeded player at MONETA Czech Open, was first to successfully enter the main event after defeating Hoang of France in two sets. The Kazakh won UniCredit Czech Open in 2016 where he beat Fucsovics of Hungary 6:1, 6:2 in the final. This year, he has won the Challenger in Irving, USA and played the quarter final in Lyon where he lost to Simon of France. What are the odds he would repeat the success from 2016? “Well, you have to win five matches and I’ve only won one so far,“ he said after the match. Kukushkin’s journey to the second victory goes through Oliva of Argentina and Djere of Serbia. Zdeněk Kolář also advanced to the second round after defeating Jan Choinski of Germany, even though he was still losing 2:4 in the third set and won four games in a row! Who will Kolář meet on his journey to the quarterfinals? He will have to beat the winner of the match Gaio – Bašič.

T. G. Masaryk Square Belonged to Children
04.06.2018 14:27:41 | Like in the last year, the morning before the qualification final matches was dedicated to the Children’s Day with MONETA on the T.G.Masaryk square. The organisers held a number of competitions for school children in the park between the shopping mall and the town hall. In the second part the programme, Thomaz Bellucci, Jiří Veselý and Adam Pavlásek practiced with children on three temporary courts.
