Veselý Knocked Off Too Early
02.06.2016 21:46:18 | “The Prostějov tournament is very special and really matters a lot to me. I’ve always been highly motivated to succeed here. I’ve won it twice and I want to become the champion for the third time. I know I have many supporters here and I don’t want to disappoint them. The more difficult it is for me,“ said Jiří Veselý on his relationship to the UniCredit Czech Open after he defeated Tipsarevič of Serbia in the match for the quarter-final. Before Veselý clashed Kukushkin to reach the semi-finals, their H2H was 1-1. Veselý won in Prostějov two years ago and lost in Halle last year.

Pavlásek a point away from the semis!
02.06.2016 18:02:25 | Adam Pavlásek played a great match against Indigo Cervantes of Spain in the quarter-final of the UniCredit Czech Open. He had a match point and he was just a small step away from reaching the final four at the Prostějov Challenger. Pavlásek lost the first set in a tiebreak, won the second one 6:3, and the third set was also decided by tiebreak. The Czech player failed to take his match point and Cervantes converted his third one… It was a great pity that Pavlásek was very close to repeating his glorious performance in 2014 at which time he also reached the best four. Adam has a bad balance with the Spaniard. He lost all their head-to-head matches last year: in Prague, Ostrava, and Mersin.

Press conference with Ivan Lendl
02.06.2016 17:33:55 | “Fifteen top hundred players applied for the twenty third UniCredit Czech Open this year. Besides Tomáš Berdych and Radek Štěpánek, who was delayed by the doubles in Paris, the entire Czech elite has appeared in Prostějov. Of course, we wanted to promote the tournament by something special. Thus, we invited Ivan Lendl and asked him to become the ambassador of our tournament. I and my wife Petra sent an email to Ivan and he replied immediately. We met one more time at the tournament in Miami and we agreed very quickly,“ said Miroslav Černošek at the beginning of the press conference with Ivan Lendl. “It’s very prestigious for us that Ivan, the best player in the history of Czechoslovak tennis and the eight-time Grand Slam champion, took the offer.“

The Top Seed Knocked Off!
02.06.2016 15:05:54 | The twenty-six-year-old Ricardas Berankis of Lithuania, currently No. 50 in the world and the first seed at the UniCredit Czech Open, succumbed to Marton Fucsovics of Hungary in two sets in the quarter-final. The twenty-four-year-old Hungarian advanced to the main event from the qualification. He first appeared in the final of the international Nike Junior Tour in Sun City, South Africa in 2003, he won the Junior title in Wimbledon in 2010 and two Challengers in China and Italy.

Veselý, Pavlásek and Rosol in the Quarter-Finals!
02.06.2016 10:44:27 | Thursday is the day on which the quarter-finals of the UniCredit Czech Open are traditionally played. It will feature great representatives of Czech tennis! “Five Czechs have appeared in the main event. Zdeněk Kolář and Dominik Kellovský received wildcards and both showed great performances. In the match against Berankis, Kolář proved his improvement over the last few moths. Dominik won the first round in a spirited match against Kudrjavcev of Russia, but No. 2 seed Cervantes was too much for him in the second round. Anyway, it has been a great experience for him,“ said the tournament director Petra Černošková. “It’s great that Veselý, Pavlásek, and Rosol proved their seeds and will fight for the semis.“
