MONETA Czech Open 2019: Pablo Andujar of Spain Is the New Champion

08.06.2019 14:14:48 | The Prostėjov challenger has an unexpected champion once again: the third-seeded Pablo Andujar of Spain (No. 93rd in ATP) defeated the thirty-year old Attila Balazs of Hungary (No. 222nd in ATP) in the final and became the second Spanish champion of the challenger. He built on the last triumph of his native Jaume Munar who was the first Spaniard to win the Prostėjov tournament in its history. The third-seeded Andújar who ranks No. 93 in ATP ranking won the fifth title in his career and the first one this year. He won all his titles on clay.

How did Pablo Andujar of Spain comment on the last match?
“The start was very good like yesterday. Then, my opponent changed the rhythm, started to play slices and improved his serve. It was very hard for me to get used to it. However, I was lucky and managed to save his two set points at 4:5, 15:40. Then I played better at the end of the match.“

What position does the Prostėjov tournament occupy in Andujar’s career?
“It is, without a doubt, one for the five top challengers and it feels like ATP 250 in terms of quality. The organizers really understand tennis which always helps. Small details make a big tournament.“

There were players with different rankings in the player field. Did it actually play any role?
“Well, there is the ranking and players with the highest ranking are considered favorites. However, the reality is different: every day is different, there are always different conditions, all players can play and there is no favorite once you get on the court. That’s what is nice about tennis!”

Will he come next year?
“I liked it here very much and I felt perfectly comfortable. I hope I’ll be able to come back. Why not?“
