MONETA Czech Open: Doubles Title Goes to Nedovjesov and Oliveira

18.06.2021 19:59:38 | Alexandr Nedovjesov of Kazakhstan and Goncalo Oliveira of Portugal won doubles in super tiebreak at MONETA Czech Open tournament after beating the Czech pair of Roman Jebavý and Zdeněk Kolář. What was the Czech pair’s journey to the final?

In the first round, Jebavý and Kolář ousted Jurajda and the holder of doubles wild card Svrčina 6:4, 7:6(6). In the clash for semi-finals, they made a super tiebreak record against Lehečka and Kopřiva: 6:4, 3:6, 15:13. The privilege to appear in the final was also decided in super tiebreak against the pair of Arends of Netherlands and Luis David Martínez of Venezuela: 6:3, 2:6, 10:5. The champions Nedovjesov, Oliveira were the top seeded pair. They beat the Czechs Paulson and Rikl 6:4, 6:3 in the opening round, then Coria and Mena of Argentina 6:2, 6:4 in the second round, and took the last easy step to the final: Dellien, Zeballos retired from the semi-final after Dellien had lost his quarter-final match.
The pair of Roman Jebavý and Zdeněk Kolář was inches away from winning the doubles title at the tournament after giving an almost error-free performance in the opening set. The Czech pair’s opponents, Aleksandr Nedovjesov and Concalo Oliveira greatly improved their game during the match and luckily levelled up in the second set tiebreak. They finalized the turnover in the super tiebreak. “The beginning was great, we should have won the match in the second set. We had some bad luck at the end, but this is tennis. We have to congratulate our opponents and accept the defeat,“ said Jebavý. Kolář, who only appeared in the doubles final hours after his singles semi-final, had similar feelings. “We had many chances in the second set and could take a decisive lead. However, we didn’t convert them and were punished for it at the end,“ said Kolář sadly.
