MONETA Czech Open: Kolář and Svrčina Advance to the Quarter-Finals. Will Veselý Join Them?

16.06.2021 14:21:48 | Five Czechs had a chance to advance to the last eight at the Prostějov challenger; in the first four matches, Zdeněk Kolář and Dalibor Svrčina have already succeeded. The first match on the Center Court featured Michael Vrbenský who lost to Hugo Dellien.

The Bolivian played more accurately from the base line and showed a more confident and persistent tennis on clay. The match was over after less than an hour and a half.Zdeněk Kolář was the first domestic player to advance to the quarter-finals after defeating Vít Kopřiva. The defeated player did not play well in the first set and even though he improved significantly in the second one, he did not turn the match around.“I played bad at the beginning but improved in the second set. Unfortunately, I made a few unforced errors in the tiebreak and made it easier for Zdeněk to win,“ said Kopřiva in disappointment. He is going to play a clay tournament in Milan next. What did Kolář have to say about his advance?“I had everything under control until the beginning of the second set. Then, Vít started to play his machine-like style which is difficult respond to for everybody. Fortunately, I outplayed him at the end of the second set, but it cost me a lot of energy. I feel fine physically and will be ready for the quarter-finals,“ said Kolář.
Dalibor Svrčina was granted a wild card from the tournament organizers and has been maximally taking advantage of it so far. The eighteen-year-old player defeated Alexander Erler of Austria 6:1 and 7:5 in the second round. “I was greatly motivated to win on the courts where I practice and I really felt well here. I have to admit that my opponent helped me by making mistakes on his serve. I’m really happy for the advance,“ said Svrčina with a smile on his face. He played well in the first set but had to fight hard for the next round in the second one. “My serve got worse and Erler became more relaxed. All of a sudden everything was against me. Fortunately, the crowd provided great support, which helped me get going again,“ said Svrčina. Veselý fought Kamke of Germany and could become the third Czech representative in the quarter-finals.
