MONETA Czech OPEN: Rosol and Kolář Win the Doubles

12.09.2020 09:53:08 | Zdeněk Kolář and Lukáš Rosol won the Prostějov championship after they defeated the Indian couple Shiram Balaji, Divij Sharan in the final. The Indians served well and you could tell they have mastered the doubles game: they often changed positions and excelled at the net. However, the Czechs were more aggressive and even smarter in the decisive tiebreak. What was the Czech couple’s journey to the title in Prostějov?

Wild card holders ousted the American-Mexican couple Robert Galloway, Hans Hach Verdugo 6:3, 7:5 in the first round. In the second one, they knocked out the second seeded couple Jonathan Ehrlich (Israel) and Andrej Vasilevski (Belarus) 6:4, 6:4, the forth seeded Dutch Sander Arends and David Pel 6:1, 1:6, 10–7 in the semis, and the Indian couple Shiram Balaji, Divij Sharan 6:2, 2:6, 10–6 in the final. They previously lost to the French couple Herbert, Rinderknech 3:6, 4:6 at the challenger on the Štvanice island in Prague, and Sitak (NZ), Zelenay (SVK) 3:6, 7:6(5), 7–10 in the quarterfinals in Ostrava. We should also point out that they won the first title together in Almaty in Kazakhstan two years ago. The Czechs will improve their doubles ranking after the tournament: Kovář will be ranked 150th at ATP and will rise by 41 spots. Rosol will even rise by 112 spots and will be ranked 220th. “It always feels great to win in the Czech Republic and I’m happy we made it,” said Kolář satisfactorily after the final.
