Jiří Veselý Gets Past MONETA Czech Open’s First Round with Ease

08.09.2020 18:14:49 | Jiří Veselý (ATP 67) confidently advanced to the second round of the Prostějov Challenger. He took the role of the tournament favorite and beat Ilya Ivashka of Belarus 6:2, 6:3. He did not allow his opponent a single break point and only had to push him a bit harder in the second set. “My serve worked well and we didn’t play much afterwards, which put the opponent under pressure. I didn’t make many mistakes and showed quite good performance. I felt really well on the court, it feels like my living room in a way,” said Jiří Veselý in reference to his first match in the tournament.

“I’ve taken the first step to regaining confidence and I believe I will take another one,” said the best Czech player. What did the coach Jaroslav Navrátil say about Jiří Veselý’s performance? Jiří went for the victory from the beginning and give a convincing performance. His serve helped him but most importantly he was relaxed and didn’t worry about the final result.” In the next round Jiří Veselý will meet the qualifier Aleksandar Vukic of Australia (ATP 200) who won the qualification final over Popko of Kazakhstan who advanced to the main event as a lucky loser in replacement of Aslan Karatsev of Russia.
