Hungarian Attila Balazs Becomes the First Finalist at MONETA Czech Open

07.06.2019 14:08:45 | Thirty-year old Attila Balazs (No. 222nd in ATP) became the first finalist at the MONETA Czech Open tournament. The eleventh-seeded Hungarian confirmed his role of the favorite and defeated Peter Torebko (534th in ATP) in two sets. In the second set Balazs was losing 0:3, but he managed to turn the match. He will play the winner of the Ruud – Andujar match for the championship title in the Haná Region.

The first set seemed to be easier for Balazs than the second one. How did the Hungarian comment on the match? “I had a very good start: I played aggressively into the court, managed to take my chances and finally won the first set quite easily. Then, I had a breakpoint in the first game of the second set but I didn’t convert it. Moreover, I lost my serve in the following game. We played long rallies and long games and I had to fight for every point.”

He will either meet Andujar or Ruud in the final. Does he have any preference? “I would probably choose Andujar if I could. In any case, it’s going to be a tough match and I will have to play my best tomorrow. I have nothing to lose and I will enjoy every minute on the court.”

How does Attila Balazs like the tournament so far? “It reminds me of my home city Budapest. It’s not far away and we could come by car. We’re staying at the hotel right in the premises of the tennis club, the food is good and people are nice so I really enjoy it here.“
