Monday at MONETA Czech Open: Great Lehečka and Kopřiva with a Surprise

03.06.2019 22:37:08 | Eight Czechs entered the scene of the MONETA Czech Open tournament on Monday: seven in singles and the doubles couple Lehečka, Veselý were the icing on the cake. The doubles couple was awarded a wild card but they had to play an extremely difficult opponent: the fourth seeded Spanish-Argentine couple Granollers, Molteni. How did it end up? The match was decided in tiebreak which the Czechs won 10:0!

“You don’t see it very often. Both Jiris gave wonderful performance in the second set and especially in the tiebreak. There were ten great shots which you don’t really see very often,” said Jaroslav Navrátil, the non-playing captain of the Davis Cup, in reference to the doubles couple’s performance.  “Let alone that Granollers and Molteni are a great couple. I also watch these matches from the perspective of the complicated match for staying in the qualification which is to be played in Bosnia and Herzegovina in September 2020,” said Navrátil.

The first match on Court No. 1 saw two Czech players: the qualifier Pavel Nejedlý and Marek Jaloviec who had received a wild card. The former one won with ease in two sets. The Centre Court also hosted domestic players: Václav Šafránek and the qualifier Roman Jebavý. Václav Šafránek withstood the doubles player Roman Jebavý’s attack, but Jan Šátral surprisingly lost to Jiří Lehečka who gave wonderful performance and, most importantly, proved to be the better player in the third set of the match. Excellent Vít Kopřiva, twenty-one year old player, ousted the favorite Steve Darcis.

Jiří Veselý and Jiří Lehečka enjoyed a successful start in doubles matches at Moneta Czech Open. In the beginning of the tournament the Czech couple, which had been awarded a wild card, turned the doubles match against G. Granollers-Pujol, Molteni and defeated their opponents in three sets. They played the tiebreak more than perfectly and won it 10:0!
