Jiří Veselý in the Prostějov Final for the Fourth Time!

09.06.2017 17:33:16 | Jiří Veselý will appear in the UniCredit Czech Open final for the fourth time in his career. He was the favourite to win the match against 24-year-old American Tennys Sandgren and proved the expectations right. Who was his opponent? Tennys Sangren has won two Challengers this year: in Temple and in Savanah. Moreover, he was the runner up in the Santa Rosa tournament, in which he beat Adam Pavlásek in the second round. Where does his name “Tennys” come from?

"It's my great-grandfather's name," said Sandgren, who is from Gallatin, outside of Nashville. "He didn't play tennis at all - it's not related to tennis. It's Swedish, and my parents really liked it. It's definitely unique, that's for sure.“
Jiří Veselý feels very good in the domestic environment. He won the tournament in 2014 and 2015, was a runner up in 2013 and, today, he made his way through to the Prostějov tournament final for the fourth time.

“I have surely played my best tennis of this week. I was much calmer today, served well, and didn’t make many unforced errors.“ said Veselý to the newspapermen. “There were many long rallies in the match.  After I broke his service, the opponent usually somewhat resigned.“ Veselý did not lose a single set in matches against Dmitry Popko, Marcelo Arevalo, Uladzimir Ignatik, and Sangren.
The disease does not bother him that much anymore. “I slept well today for the first time and I’ve been feeling better since the morning. However, the neck hasn’t got any better. We’ve already found out that I have a slipped disk and I’ll have to see professor Kolář after the tournament. It’s nothing serious, but we must start dealing with it at the very beginning,“ said Veselý.
