05.06.2008 10:50:15 | Four quarterfinal duels in singles and two semi-finals in doubles are on schedule of the 15th UniCredit Czech Open 2008 today. How many irons in the fire does the Czech tennis have?
No 1 seed, Tomas Berdych, is masterfully stepping higher and higher and Bohdan Ulihrach undoubtedly desires to defend his last year’s semi-finals. He had quite an easy way among the best eight players this year as Alberto Martin had given up the match before it even started.
On the central court Argentinian Augustin Calleri is going to fight the defender of the title and compatriot in one person, Sergio Roitman. The match between Bohdan Ulihrach and Belgian Christoph Rochuss is beginning right after. At 2.30 as the earliest the duel between Tomas Berdych and Brazilian Belluci is scheduled for.
On the court No. 1 Argentinean Arguello is going to clash with Italian Cipollo and then two doubles matches are going to take place: Jebavy and Zeman (CR) against Haggard (SAR) and Tourte (France) in the first match and Slovakian Hrbaty and Pala (CR) against De Voesto (SAR) and Kubota (Poland) in the second one.
So far the greatest surprise of the tournament is the doubles pair Jebavy, Zeman. They enrolled into the tournament with a free card of the Czech Tennis Association and in the quarterfinals they surprisingly defeated No 1 seed pair Lewinsky, Shkoch. That Hrbaty and Pala would reach the semi-finals was not expected at all. “We got together with Dominik and we are slowly accelerating, we are headed to get as high as possible”, stated Peter Pala yesterday. Pala is a splendid doubles player and a non-playing captain of the Czech FedCup Team.
