07.06.2024 14:38:16 | The opening semi-final match at the UniCredit Czech Open began as expected. The seeded Argentine, Pedro Cachin, won the first three games. However, a major upset began to unfold: Jerome Kym of Switzerland won six consecutive games and took the entire first set. After a brief break between sets, Cachin returned to the court completely focused.
The Argentine broke Kym's serve twice in a row and matched his opponent's pace at 6-1, bringing the match to a deciding set. At the start of the final set, the opponents broke each other's serve. From 4-4 onwards, only Kym was successful and, in a surprising turn of events, celebrated his advancement to the final.
"It was a bit of a crazy, roller-coaster-style match. But I still felt I had a chance to win. That's also why I was relaxed and managed to win the crucial rallies," said Kym in celebration.
How does he rate the course of the match?
"I lost my serve at the beginning of both the first two sets, which happens when you are not completely well set up for the match. But I was able to adjust quickly and turn the unfavorable situation in my favor. Pedro is definitely not an easy opponent; I actually lost to him two years ago in Verona."
The ending of the last set made the match even more dramatic with a lost break...
"In the third set, I decided to take a chance. I knew it could either result in a winning shot or a fault. Luckily, I succeeded in defeating my opponent 6-4, which is undoubtedly a positive outcome. I am genuinely grateful for this victory."
What are his preferences in the finals, Tseng or Djere?
"I don't really care, I'll be ready!"
