06.06.2024 18:18:21 | The journey of the last Czech player in the UniCredit Czech Open concluded in the quarterfinals. Chun-hsin Tseng of Taiwan proved to be too much for the player who made it to the main draw from qualification. Vrbensky lost 3-6, 4-6 despite leading 3-1 in the first set.
"In the first set, I had a break at 4:1, but then my opponent really applied pressure on me, preventing me from playing my game effectively for a long time. During that stretch of the match, I dropped nine consecutive games, a lapse that doesn't go unpunished by the opponent, ultimately costing me the match," said Vrbensky.
Tseng, a participant in the 2022 Under-21 Champions Tournament, began to dominate the court after a slower start, winning nine games in a row at the transition between the two sets. At 0:4 in the second set, Vrbensky attempted to turn things around and saved three match points. However, he only managed to slightly adjust the score.
"I kept fighting. The crowd was behind me, and I hope I didn't let them down. At 4:5, I had three chances to level the score, and the match could have become even more exciting. But perhaps I lacked a bit of strength to win the crucial point," said the Czech player. Nevertheless, he was satisfied with his performance at the tournament. "My initial goal was to advance to the main draw; anything beyond that is a bonus. I faced strong opponents, and that's what will drive me forward. I believe I'll be back next year and achieve a similar result," said Vrbensky as he bid farewell to the UniCredit Czech Open.
