Jerome Kym Becomes the First Semi-Finalist

06.06.2024 13:55:39 | The opening quarter-final of the ongoing UniCredit Czech Open witnessed a showdown between two players from the younger generation, with twenty-one-year-old Swiss Jerome Kym emerging victorious. He showcased his current excellent form and defeated the two-years-older Kyrian Jaquet of France in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. Kym demonstrated more confidence towards the end of both sets and celebrated his fifth consecutive win on the Prostejov courts.

"I’m really enjoying my time here, which is understandable: I have already advanced from the qualifiers to the semi-finals, which alone is a great success for me. It feels like a fairytale that I will try to extend," said Kym, rejoicing after the valuable victory.

What did he have to say about the match with the Frenchman Jaquet? "It was definitely not easy; I was down 1-4 in the first set, but I tried to come back. Luckily, my opponent started making errors and allowed me to win some easy points. In the end, I found my rhythm and managed to advance to the next round."

In the upcoming round, he is either going to face Albot or Cachino. "The last time I played Cachino was in 2022 in Verona. Even though I lost in the end, I remember it was a very good match. Basically, I don't really care which one of them advances; I will have to give an excellent performance in any case."

What are his thoughts on the tournament? "It's been fantastic thus far. I must commend the superb organization. Additionally, this venue holds special memories for me as we previously won the U14 World Team Championship with the Swiss team here. I'm thoroughly enjoying competing in this environment and looking forward to the upcoming match."
