Jakub Mensik: I'll Be Back Next Year

04.06.2024 18:03:16 | There has typically been significant interest in the press conferences featuring Miroslav Cernosek, the head of the Prostejov tennis club, and the currently injured Jakub Mensik. The young Czech player has been attending the matches of the ongoing UniCredit Czech Open solely as a spectator.

Last year, he made his debut in a challenger tournament and participated in an exhibition match against Tomas Berdych in Prostejov. This year, he was anticipated to contend for the overall victory. However, his hopes were dashed by an injured arm. "I'm terribly sorry about that. Being a native of Prostejov, I wanted to play in this tournament. It was my intention. However, health had to take precedence. I can't just concentrate on the current season and risk longer-term problems. I find solace in knowing that I still have ample time at my age to participate in many more editions of the tournament. I am hopeful that I will compete here again next year," said the 18-year-old Mensik, who is considered a promising talent in Czech tennis. Despite having to withdraw from Roland Garros due to his injury, he remains confident that he will be prepared for Wimbledon.
