06.06.2023 12:56:59 | Jakub Menšík faced Nicholas David Ionel in two tournaments in a row. While he needed over three hours to advance in Tunis, he easily defeated the Romanian in two sets 6:2, 6:3 at the UniCredit Czech Open. The champion of the recent Challenger in Prague will either meet Facundo Bagnis or Michael Geerts in the battle for quarterfinals. The wild-card holder Jakub Menšík had a great start to the tournament.
Except for the opening game, Menšík was the better player in the first set and deservedly took the lead in the first set. In the second set, the players broke each other’s service several times. On his serve at 5:3 the TK AGROFERT player did not hesitate and converted the first match point.
"I was only a little nervous at the beginning but remained calm for the rest of the match. In the second set my opponent broke my serve because the balls were worn down a bit and my aggressive game didn't work out so much. But I managed to cope with it and I am enjoying the advance," said Menšík who had also beaten Ionel at the last tournament in Tunisia. "We already knew his weak points and it went faster than the first time," said Menšík who had been supported by a good-sized crowd in the stands. "That also made me happy. The support from the crowd is important for my performance. I'm glad they saved some time and came," said the great Czech tennis talent in appreciation of the supporters.
