Prostejov Tournament Statistics: Twelve Czech Championship Titles

06.06.2023 09:55:28 | Twelve Czech titles, four for Argentina, three for Spain, two for Kazakhstan, Australia and Spain, one for Slovakia, Italy, Russia, Sweden, Finland, Germany and Poland. In the twenty-nine-year history of the Prostejov Challenger, Czech tennis has won twelve championship titles. What does the Czech winning record look like?

Jan Hájek (2006, 2009 and 2010), Radek Štěpánek (2003, 2004 and 2013) and Jiří Veselý (2014, 2015 and 2017) won the title three times, Bohdan Ulihrach (1997, 2001) twice and Vít Kopřiva (2022) once. Argentina celebrated at the National Tennis Centre Morava four times: Guillermo Coria (2002), Sergio Roitman (2007), Agustin Calleri (2008) and Federico Coria (2021).  Australia has two titles: Richard Fromberg succeeded in the 1997 and 1998 seasons, and so did Kazakhstan: Yuri Shchukin in 2011 and Mikhail Kukushkin in 2016. Spain has two titles as Jaume Munar became a champion in 2018 and Pablo Andujar a year later. The list of champions also includes Karol Kučera of Slovakia (1994), Andrea Gaudenzi of Italy (1995), Andrei Chesnokov of Russia (1996), Andreas Vinciguera of Sweden (2000), Jarkko Nieminen of Finland (2005), Florian Mayer of Germany in 2012 and Majchrzak of Poland in 2020.

How about runner ups? Czechs have appeared in the final ten times: Tomáš Zdražil in 1994, Jiří Novák three times in 1995, 2001 and 2002, Michal Tabara in 2004, Ivo Minář in 2005, Radek Štěpánek in 2010, Jan Hájek in 2012, Jiří Veselý in 2013 and Dalibor Svrčina (2022). Argentina, Spain and Hungary have played the finals three times, Serbia and Slovakia twice. Brazil, Australia, France, Germany, Belgium and Italy have had one appearance in the finals.
