02.06.2022 19:23:17 | The biggest Czech men's tournament UniCredit Czech Open has reached the quarterfinals. The Czech tennis had three chances and took two of them! Vít Kopřiva defeated Pucinelli of Brazil in two sets and Dalibor Svrčina also succeeded by knocking out Medjedovic of Serbia in two sets. Lukáš Klein confirmed his good form from the last weeks in the match against Benjamin Hassan of Lebanon. The Slovak won the first set in tiebreak and also succeeded in the second set even though he was trailing 1:4.
"I won a challenger in Germany a week ago. I gained the necessary confidence and made good use of it here in Prostějov. I wasn't even afraid to go for winners at key points. I have to admit that my opponent played really well, when his balls landed inside the court I was often reduced to just a spectator. Fortunately, he started to make mistakes and that got me through to the semi-finals," said the winner Lukáš Klein.
Vít Kopřiva was the first Czech to advance to the last four of the tournament after beating Matheus Pucinelli de Almeida of Brazil. The home player dictated the pace throughout the match and only got into minor trouble at the end. However, he eventually managed to convert the eighth match point. "I didn't take my chances and lost the first two match points, which made the situation more difficult. I was gradually becoming more and more nervous, but fortunately it turned out well," said Kopřiva who was otherwise satisfied with his performance. "Actually, my game was perfectly fine until 4:0 in the second set. All in all, I gave a good performance," said the Czech player who has reached a challenger semi-finals for the first time this year. "It's great. Moreover, the tournament is taking place in Prostějov where I have my family and friends. I have saved some energy and believe I can go even further," said Kopřiva.
Dalibor Svrčina breezed through the opening set against Hamad Medjedovic of Serbia with ease. He lost his serve once in the second set, but it didn't stop him from winning the match. "I gave a much better performance than in the previous round. My opponent made a lot of mistakes and that got me started. It was a solid performance on my part," said Svrčina who managed to take advantage of his opponent's repeated loss of focus. "His game is very good, but sometimes he can't handle emotions. I knew I had to go point by point. Every good rally could take him down. It worked out well and he even played the match point without much interest," said Svrčina. "I am happy I’ve reached the semi-finals on my home courts. It's great to have another match ahead of me," said Svrčina who is looking forward to battling for the final.
Martin Krumich tried to improve his challenger best in the match against Horanský of Slovakia, but lost in straight sets. Still, Krumich has had his best week of this season as he only lost to the eleven years older Slovak Horanský. "I had chances in both sets, but I didn't take them. I'm upset and frustrated at this point, but I'll be satisfied with my performance when I wake up tomorrow morning," said Martin Krumich sadly right after the match.
