He dominated on the Prostějov courts in 2003, 2004 and 2013 and made his mark in the history of this clay-court challenger. "This tournament was crucial for my my career. It was full of wonderful stories. The fact that I managed to win three times in Prostějov is really amazing for me," said the two-time Davis Cup winner and former eighth player in the ATP world rankings in reference to the UniCredit Czech Open.
“I’ve always felt at home in Prostějov. My journey to later successes started at the local courts. There were always a number of friends in the crowd, which I always enjoyed. This was also why I was always happy to lift the champions trophy here," said Štěpánek in praise of the atmosphere at the Centre Court.
Let us also point out that Štěpánek defeated the Argentine Puerta in the final in 2003, his clubmate Tabara a year later, and then Veselý in 2013. In 2010, Štěpánek played in the final again, but lost to Jan Hájek at the time.
