18.06.2021 15:25:27 | Zdenìk Koláø did not succeed against the tournament fourth seed. In the opening semi-final match against Federico Coria he was soon two breaks down 2:5 and even though he tried hard he did not win them back. The Argentinian played his errorless machine-like game which earned him a lead.
The Czech player lost his serve again right at the beginning of the second set and Coria did let go since. The Argentinian finally rejoiced at his advance to the final which his brother Guilermo had played here in Prostìjov nineteen years ago. He was No. 1 in the world in 2004 and appeared in the final at Roland Garros.
Yes, the MONETA Czech Open finalist’s brother Guillermo made a record in the history of the Prostìjov tournament after beating Jiøí Novák in the final. “My brother won here in 2002. We talk on a daily basis and he’s even sent me a picture with the cup. He was an excellent player and can still analyze tennis pretty well. I’d like follow in his footsteps and win here tomorrow.I’m really happy for getting through to the final,“ said Federico Coria after his semi-final match. He will sure not have a problem to send a picture from his cell phone to Argentina tomorrow. He hopes the picture will show him with the winning cup.
What did he have to say about the match with Koláø?“We played against one another in Bratislava last week and I beat him 7:5 in the third set. He seemed to be more nervous today and I managed to take advantage of it.
Who would he prefer in the final? Molcan or Mager?“They’re both excellent players. I beat Gianluca 7:6 in the third set in March and Molcan a month ago. Molcan played the final in Belgrade which is, of course, is quite revealing. I’m definitely looking forward to the final.“
What did Koláø have to say after his defeat? “I knew I’d have to be more creative and go for winners. That was the reason why I made more unforced errors. There was quite many of them which was a problem. Federico proved to be an excellent clay-courter. He virtually made no mistakes and deserved to win,“ said Koláø admitting that he also struggled with his energy level. “I’ve been playing both singles and doubles at the tournament and the exhaustion has built up. But I don’t regret it. I had a chance to play a number of quality matches and that’s the way I like it,“ said Koláø.
