17.06.2021 20:22:47 | Roman Jebavý and Zdeněk Kolář continue their successful doubles journey at the Prostějov challenger. In their semi-final match they have beaten the second seeded pair of Arends and Martinez and will battle for the title.
Kolář will repeat his final match from 2020: he won the doubles title with Lukáš Rosol in Prostějov after defeating the Indian pair of Shiram Balaji and Divij Sharan last year. The Indians served well and you could tell they had mastered the doubles game: they kept changing positions and excelled at the net. However, the Czechs played more aggressively and were smarter in the decisive tiebreak. The match for the final was only decided in the super tiebreak. Kolář and Jebavý were leading 3:0, Dutch Arends and Venezuelan Luis David Martínez reduced the lead to 3:2, then 4:4 followed by perhaps a fatal double fault by Arends to 5:4. The Czechs then enjoyed a winning streak up to 9:4, then 9:5 and the final winning point to 10:5. Kolář was clearly the best player on the court as Jebavý’s volleys often hit the net cord in decisive moments. Kolář and Jebavý will meet the top seeded Nedovyesov of Kazakhstan and Oliveira of Puerto Rico in the last match. The latter pair advanced to the final without playing: Dellien of Bolivia withdrew from the doubles semi-final after losing to Molčan of Slovakia in the singles quarter-final. He and his native Zeballos got a lift to the Vienna Airport...
“It’s always a great feeling to win a tournament in the Czech Republic and I’m glad we’ve succeeded,“ said Kolář in satisfaction last year. Will he repeat his words this year?
