Monday’s First Round at MONETA Czech Open? Four Czechs Advance

14.06.2021 18:43:03 | MONETA Czech Open saw six Czech players in the first round. Michael Vrbenský was the first to celebrate. His opponent Goncalo Oliveira (ATP 293) of Portugal was very close to him in the ATP rankings: Vrbenský was only six places ahead of him. The Czech was more patient, had a better serve and won in three sets.

The match of Dalibor Svrčina (ATP 588) versus the 24-four-year old Matthias Bachinger of Germany (ATP 248) was a match of two opposites: the German won the first set 6:2, which was followed by a big moment for the 18-year-old Czech who won eleven games in a row - 6:0, 5:0. Then, Bachinger won a game and Svrčina finished the match."I had more energy. My performance was gradually improving,“ said Svrčina. In the federal match, Kovalík of Slovakia started better but Kopřiva outplayed him in the tiebreak 7:6(4) and closely won the final set 6:4. “It was very hard and tight. It took me some time to get going. I spent a lot of energy on the court but it was worth it. I didn’t want to finish in the first round at home,“ said  Kopřiva. Zdeněk Kolář (236 ATP) controlled the match against the Austrian Lucas Miedler (320 ATP) and won it decisively 6:2, 6:2. Andrew Paulson (678 ATP) had a hard time against the fifth seeded Hugo Dellien of Bolivia (129 ATP) and was defeated in two sets.  Jonáš Forejtek played the third seeded Italian Gianluca Mager (82 ATP) who was definitely the strongest opponent of all Czech players, which proved true on the court.
