MONETA Czech Open: Two Singles Semi-Finals and the Doubles Final!

10.09.2020 17:57:46 | The Czech tennis will stand two big chances at MONETA Czech Open on Friday: advance to the singles final and win the doubles title! The singles matches will first see Jiří Lehečka (ATP 441) vs. Kamil Majchrzak of Poland (ATP 107), followed by defending champion Pablo Andujar of Spain (ATP 56) vs. Stefano Travaglia of Italy (ATP 87).

The Italian defeated Martin Kližan in three sets in the last quarterfinal match on Thursday which was probably the best duel of the day. What did Travaglia have to say? ”I wanted to get Kližan under pressure from the beginning but it didn’t work and I lost the first set. I had to made some changes in the strategy which then worked better in the second set. It’s really hard when you’re a set and a break down and I’m really very happy I managed to recover and defeat such a good quality opponent in the end.’’

What chances does Travaglia have against the defending champion Andujar? “I expect a similar match like the one today. Pablo has had a wonderful career in which he won a number of ATP tournaments. I will have to concentrate on my performance and invest all my energy into the match. I want to win and reach the final! I like playing on the center court, its surface is faster than on the outside courts and, most importantly, it there is no wind because it’s covered. You get used to it very quickly and I’m getting better every day.”

The Czech tennis will also stand a great chance in doubles. We had two couples in the semis but only one of them reached the final. David Poljak and Dalibor Svrčina lost to the Indian couple Balaji, Sharan, 1:6, 5:7 in the first match, even though it seemed they could turn the match around in the second set. They were leading 3:1 and 5:3, but it didn’t suffice and the Indians eventually won the match. The second semifinal was like a rollercoaster. However, Lukáš Rosol and Zdeněk Kolář were the happier ones in the end after they beat the Dutch couple Arends, Pel 6:1, 1:6, 10:7!
