The defending champion Pablo Andujar of Spain defeated Jozef Kovalík of Slovakia in the quarterfinal match at MONETA Czech Open. The Spaniard took an early lead and it seemed that the match would be over soon. However, the real battle started in the second set. What did Andujar have to say?
“I started very aggressively and tried to play as solid as possible. But Jozef kept improving and, in the end, we both played very well and battled really hard. I could have ended it earlier but Jozef started to play more aggressively and went for every ball. I only defeated the him in the tiebreak. I’m really happy for making it to the semis, every match is hard to win.”
How satisfied was Andurjar on the local center court? “The center court has a fantastic atmosphere and the crowd is great. The surface is quite fast and the balls get a good bounce. It’s a great court for a challenger and I think it would also satisfy the requirements for ATP250.“
Andujar will meet either Kližan of Slovakia or Travaglia of Italy in the semis. What does he expect from the match? “I’ve already played them. They are both very talented players and have wonderful shots. I definitely expect a very hard match.”
