Jiří Lehečka Through to the Semis After Only 46 Minutes!

He couldn’t have wished for a better beginning. Horanský only won his serve as late as at 0:4! Lehečka kept his serve to 5:1 and then broke Slovak’s again for 6:1 when the timer showed 24 minutes… The second set was almost identical: Horanský lost his serve for 3:1. Lehečka increased his lead to 4:1 and Horanský failed to take advantage of his serve again – 5:1. Lehečka then finished the job at 6:1 and advanced to the MONETA Czech Open semifinals.

Yes, the first semifinal match featuring the last remaining Czech in the singles took only 46 minutes. Jiří Lehečka gave an excellent performance against Filip Horanský. He only lost his first game at 4:0 in the opening set and dominated on the court until the last point. He broke the opponent’s serve five times and literally drove the Slovak opponent  off the court. “I could rely on my serve and was successful in placing my shots. I tried not to think that the match was going so quickly. I concentrated on every point and the head worked as it should. That’s why the result is what it is,” said Lehečka who had problems with his lower arm after the second match. “The physiotherapist Petr Sedláček did a great job. He relaxed the strained lower arm and I was absolutely fine then,“ said the Prostějov club player. Lehečka proved it was a good decision for the organizers to give him the wild card. “I got a chance to gain valuable experience and I’m glad I’ve so far shown quality performance. I tried to repay for the wild card and I succeeded,” said Lehečka with a smile after advancing to the semis.
