Two Big Chances to Reach the Doubles Final

10.09.2020 10:19:11 | Both Czech couples got through to the semis on Wednesday: David Poljak and Dalibor Svrčina ousted Brkic and Margaroli in two sets, and Zdeněk Kolář and Lukáš Rosol defeated Erlich and Vasilevski. Czechs have always excelled in doubles, needless to mention Czech tennis always took advantage of it in team competitions. David Poljak has advanced to the doubles semifinals at a challenger for the first time.

“It was very important that Dalibor made it despite his injured ankle. He held his serve, we didn’t lose it a single time,” said David Poljak after the match. Svrčina sprained his ankle suffered for about the seventh time at 6:2, 2:1… “I’ll be fine for the semis. I’ll ice it overnight and it’ll be just fine,” said Dalibor Svrčina. Poljak and Svrčina will have to beat the Indian coupel Balaji and Sharan on their journey to the final. “I’ve seen them play a few times already, but not in doubles. I think they’ll play the doubles style a lot, swapping positions and so on. They’ll be definitely much more difficult opponents than Brkic and Margaroli. Let alone Indians usually play on hard surfaces, not on clay, and that should be our advantage,” said David Poljak.

Zdeněk Kolář and Lukáš Rosol are older and, naturally, more experienced. They will face Arends a Pela of Netherlands who advanced to the semis after defeating the Canadian-Spanish couple Diez, Vega Hernandez only in supersupertiebreak 10 : 7. Both doubles semifinals will be played on court No. 1 after the match of Majchrzak of Poland and Vukic of Australia.
