The 2019 MONETA Czech Open champion Pablo Andujar of Spain (ATP 56) clashed with the twenty-eight-year-old Lorenzo Giustino of Italy (ATP 154) for advancement to the quarter finals. Andujar absolutely dominated on the court and was smashing his opponent hard. However, they did not play for very long: the Italian signaled to the umpire he decided to retire from the match at 6:0, 3:0. What did he have to say about the match?
“I really played well, did not make many mistakes and gave a solid performance. I’m glad I won. The match was important for gaining confidence and I’m sure it’ll help me.” What are the odds for him to defend the title? “Everybody who joins the tournament wants to win it. Needless to point out that the player field is very strong and they all play well. I just go from match to match, concentrate on the next opponent and don’t set any goals.”
Was it hard for him to decide whether or not he should come to Prostėjov during the Coronavirus crisis? “I’d like to point out that the tournament director and organizers have been doing a great job. It’s very important for us, the players, and we should be grateful for it. We get excellent service and everybody takes very good care of us here. Let’s hope the crisis will be over soon and we can return to normal regime again.”
