The Prostějov Challenger has entered its second half, provided that we include the high-quality qualification. The National Tennis Center Moravia will offer an eventful program on Wednesday at the end of which will know the singles quarterfinalists and the last four doubles couples. The Czech tennis will have four chances, two in singles and two in doubles, to avoid the risk that we would not appear in the final singles rounds. We had no Czech representatives in the quarter finals two years ago, and none in the round of sixteen last year.
In 2019 it was only the newly formed couple Lehečka-Veselý that reached the doubles final. The center court will first see Lehečka play Milojevic of Serbia (ATP 145) who defeated the 2018 MONETA Czech Open champion Jaume Munar of Spain in the first round. “If Jiří plays as aggressive as he did in the first round against Ferreiro of Portugal, he will sure have a chance. Lehečka has proved he is perfectly prepared for the tournament also with regard to of his physical condition,” said Michal Navrátil who also participates in coaching of the great Czech tennis hope.
Jiří Veselý will play the qualifier Aleksandar Vukic of Australia (ATP 200) to join the last eight. The Czech No. 1 showed a convincing performance and is surely a huge favorite in the match. “I’ve never played him before and I almost don’t know him. But I’ll certainly do my best and get ready for him,” said Veselý after he defeated Ivashka of Belarus in the first round.
What are the odds for Czechs to reach the doubles semi-finals? David Poljak and Dalibor Svrčina surprised many by knocking out Dominik Kellovský and Jiří Lehečka in the opening derby match of wild card holders. The winners will meet the Bosnian-Swiss couple Tomislav Brkic and Luca Margaroli in the quarter final. Lukáš Rosol and Zdeněk Krejčí will clash with the second seeded Israeli-Bulgarian couple Jonathan Ehrlich and Andrei Vasilevski for reaching the semis.
