Prostėjov Challengers second day will see the first and the second seeds on the center court of the National Tennis Centers AGROFERT Arena: the defending champion Pablo Andujar of Spain (ATP 56th) and the domestic tripper tournament champion Jiøí Veselý (ATP 67). Last year the Spaniard ranked three spots outside the top hundred and was the third seed in Prostėjov. He defeated the thirty-year-old Attila Balazs of Hungary in the final and became the second Spanish champion of the Prostėjov Challenger. He built on his native Jaume Munars success in 2018 who was historically the first Spaniard to win the Prostėjov tournament. However, Munar was ousted from the MONETA Czech Open after Nikola Milojevic defeated him in the first round.
Andujar will clash with Zdenėk Koláø who made it to the quarter final at a recent challenger in Ostrava and who was given a wild card into this year’s MONETA Czech Open.
The third player to appear on the Prostėjov Center Court today is Jiøí Veselý. He has long considered the domestic tournament the best opportunity for him to regain his confidence. He was a huge favorite over the twenty-year-old Sandro Ehrat last year. However, he lost as early as in the first round! “The performance I showed clearly perfectly corresponds to my current form. I seems I forgot to play tennis. Everything was wrong. There is nothing I can build on and I have no idea about my future,“ said Jiøí Veselý after the match. Miroslav Černošek, the boss of Prostėjov tennis, entered the scene last year. He had a conversation with Veselý and the chief coach Navrátil who got him back under his wings. Veselý won both Davis Cup singles for the first time this year. After losing in the first round at the US Open he said he believed in the magic of the Prostėjov tournament. Who will he meet? Ilya Ivashka of Belarus (ATP 138). Let us hope Veselý will celebrate victory after the match.
