Vít Kopřiva Loses a Close Match

06.06.2019 10:08:46 | Vít Kopřiva was very close to matching his career’s best result at a challenger. However, he did not advance among the last eight at the MONETA Czech Open tournament in the end. After a promising start, he lost to Peter Torebko of Germany: the experienced opponent managed to turn the match. Kopřiva was the last Czech in the singles.

“I played quite solid in the first set, but then it went away and especially my serve got much worse. There was a bad ending for me. In the first set I played quite well and was leading 4:0. I had some break points, but I didn’t maintain my game. However, I still managed to win the set but it cost me a lot of energy. The atmosphere on the Centre Court was awesome. I received great support from the crowd and I didn’t have any problems with concentration,” said the twenty-year old Vít Kopřiva (617th in ATP ranking). He has won two Futures tournaments: in Tabarca, Tunisia, and in Prague. In Prostějov, he was awarded a wild card and defeated the seeded player Steve Darcis of Belgium in the second round.

He played Torebko in Jablonec two weeks ago and lost to him in two sets in the first round. “The conditions there were completely different: we played after rain, there was no crowd and the court was much smaller than the one in Prostějov. Unfortunately I didn’t succeed in either match. In any case, the match in Jablonec helped me a lot because I at least knew what to expect. I started well in Prostějov but I didn’t manage to finish it. It was only about a few points, but the opponent was better today.” Kopřiva was losing 0:3, 2:4 in the third set, but he levelled to 4:4. However, Torebko won his serve, was leading 5:4 and then broke Kopřiva’s serve. The German took advantage of his experience in decisive moments…
