17.05.2017 13:15:57 | The 24th edition of UniCredit Czech Open, the largest Czech tournament with total prize money of USD 150 thousand, will be held on 5th to 10th June. As far as the Czechs are concerned, Jiří Veselý and Adam Pavlásek will appear in the main event so far. The tournament will also see the last year’s champion Mikhail Kukushkin, as well as the former number eight Janko Tipsarevic. The latter has already won four Challengers this year. Wildcards have been granted to the Argentine Diego Schwartzman, the former number five Tommy Robredo, and Martin Kliman of Slovakia. Another Argentine Horacio Zeballos has also signed up for the tournament.
“The tournament is very strong. However, as we know from the past, the player field will be greatly influenced by Paris,“ said the UniCredit Czech Open director Petra Černošková at the opening press conference. The tournament will be held concurrently with the second week of the Grand Slam tournament Roland Garros. “Therefore, we hope that the signed up players and wildcard candidates will not be successful enough to survive the first week in Paris,“ said the tournament director with exaggeration.
The final has been scheduled for Saturday 10th June, 11:00 a.m., following an exhibition match. The exhibition match will feature Olympic champions, three whom are already known: the tennis champion from Seoul Miloslav Mečíř, the javelin thrower Jan Železný, and the judo champion from Rio Lukáš Krpálek. The fourth one has not been revealed by the organizers yet…
