02.05.2007 | Thanks to patient and goal-directed tournament philosophy focusing on top domestic players the Czech Open now ranks among the best tournaments in its category. In addition to having engaged first-quality players organizers have also prepared lots of wonderful associated events. "We want our business partners to feel good, we want them to conduct fruitful business dealings during the tournament as financial background and quality of our projects directly depend on their success and power," says over and over the head of tennis in Prostějov, Dr. Černošek.
This year again, the UniCredit Czech Open will host representatives of public administration and important people of social and business life. Many of them are going to participate in attractive associated events. One of the best players of the history, Ivan Lendl, is going to come to Prostějov this year. He had spent altogether 270 weeks on the top of ATP rankings; he won 94 tournaments, including 8 grand slams! In 1980 he helped the Czech team to win the Davis Cup and in TK PLUS survey „Sportsmen of the century“ he was appointed the Best Czech Tennis Player of the 20th century. In 2001 he became a member of the tennis Hall of Fame. Lendl will participate in V.I.P. golf tournament in Slavkov near Brno, where he is going to compete with other celebrities as prime minister Mirek Topolánek, ministry of the interior of the CR Ivan Langer, Marek Eben, Jiří Bartoška, Jiří Korn and others. And Miloš Mečíř? Former Number 4 of ATP rankings won 11 tournaments. In 1980 at the Olympic Games in Seoul he won the gold medal in singles and the bronze medal in doubles together with Milan Šrejbr. He twice took part in grand slam finals (1986, US Open and 1989, Australian Open) each time falling prey to Ivan Lendl! But Lend and Mečíř will probably have no time to discuss these matches as the former is going to play golf in Slavkov whereas Mečíř is going to embellish the V.I.P. tennis tournament, in which, among others, also Nováček, Rikl and Jiří Novák are going to participate. According to the sources from behind the scenes the Czech Open is going to be the last tournament of his fruitful career.
