He had surprisingly ousted Alexander Kudrjavcev of Russia in the first round but the Spaniard was too much for him. “It was not a great match on my part. I had a great first round on court No. 1. Today, I played on the Centre Court for the first time. Unfortunately, I didn’t rise to the occasion. It just wasn’t my day today.“
How did Kellovský feel on the Centre Court? “Of course, it’s been a great experience for me. You are surrounded by the crowd and the atmosphere is completely different as compared to the other courts. But it didn’t really play any significant role. Today just didn’t turn out quite as I hoped it would. I played Cervantes who is No. 60 in the world and, unlike Kudrjavcev whom I played in the first round, makes minimum errors. Unfortunately, it ended as it ended.“
Kellovský played the same opponent in Ostrava last year. How would he compare the two matches? “They were very similar. We played each other a year ago when he ranked around 200 ATP and I was almost nobody. We have both made some progress within the year, he has reached No. 60 in the world. My game was very nervous both in Ostrava and here. I’m disappointed now that I didn’t show a better performance, but I tried to do my best at the given moment.“
How would he evaluate the overall tournament? “I was only told I would appear in the main event shortly before the qualification. I made it through the first round which was absolutely unexpected. I’m a little bit disappointed now because I could have played better against Cervantes. However, if somebody told me before the tournament that I would make it through the first round at the greatest Challenger, I would have been very satisfied. Of course, it’s been one of the better tournaments for me,“ said Dominik Kellovský.
