31.05.2016 10:31:43 | The UniCredit Czech Open 2016 hosts ten players from the top hundred and, for the first time in its history, the organizers from Prostějov did not use all wildcards to improve the strength of the player field. “We didn’t need it. The field was strong enough and we didn’t want to make it even more difficult for the Czech players. A number of great players applied for the wildcards, but there was clearly no need,“ said Petra Černošková, the tournament director.
“Gacia-Lopez of Spain, Leonardo Mayer of Argentina, Giraldo of Columbia and others showed interest to come to Prostějov, but we finally decided not to take the offer. We gave one card to Tipsarevič who had been promised to receive one a long time ago. We had agreed on his appearance in the Prostějov tournament even before he got injured at which time he was No. 15 in the world. He’s a very attractive player. He’s coming back. He used to be No. 8 in the world ranking four years ago. I saw him play before Roland Garros in Geneva against Delbonis of Argentina and it was a great match!“
