29.05.2016 10:55:25 | A storm struck the Hana Region on Saturday night brought more worries to the organizers of the 23rd UniCredit Czech Open. Anyway, Sunday is the day which marks the beginning of qualification. Courts have been perfectly prepared again and ten Czechs have made it through to the qualification round: Jaroslav Pospíšil, Václav Šafránek, Jan Mertl, and Pavel Nejedlý based on their ATP rankings, and the remaining six players have received a wild card. The Czech Tennis Club has given their cards to Matěj Vocel and Vít Kopřiva, and the organizers’ cards to Jakub Novák, Evžen Holiš, Daniel Orlita, and Tomáš Papík.
The qualification top seed is Joao Souza of Brazil (186th ATP), No. 2 seed is Norbert Gomboš of Slovakia (200th ATP), No. 3 seed is Marton Fucsovics of Hungary (204th ATP), and No. 4 seed is Aldin Setkic of Bosnia and Herzegovina (ATP 209th). This year’s top seed Souza of Brazil, who ranked 78th ATP a year ago, made it through to the semis last year in which he lost to Djere of Serbia. The latter one lost to Jiří Veselý in the finals.
