05.06.2015 10:40:20 | Everybody wished Jiří Veselý would advance to the semi-finals of the Prostějov Challenger and he finally did. His matches pull the crowd and Centre Court is always full. Veselý always made it through to the finals in the last two editions. This year, he’s the only remaining Czech in the tournament this year. Honestly, who would have expected his semi-finals opponent to be Vladzimir Ignatik of Belorussia who has defeated André Ghem. The other semi-finals match will feature Joao Souza of Brazil vs. Laslo Djer of Serbia. Souza has knocked out the third seeded Marcel Granollers of Spain in three sets and Djere of Serbia has defeated his native Dusan Lajovic.
“Of course, I’m really glad Jiří is running to defend his title. He has to win two more matches which is going to be rather hard for him. New names in the semi-finals only prove that the challenger had balanced field. Honestly, few expected Laslo Djere of Serbia, who celebrated his twentieth birthday here, would advance to the lost four. He helped us win the junior extra-league two years ago and he already knows it here. Who would have expected Souza of Brazil to defeat the tournament favourite Granollers of Spain, the former number nineteenth in the world? Our tournament proved to have great reputation in the world and the players are very close in level. We can tell that after the quarter-finals anybody can win and it proves to be true,“ said the tournament director Petra Černošková before the quarter-final matches.
