04.06.2015 11:01:43 | Quarter-finalist Joao Souza changed the statistics in Buenos Aires in early March in the first round. He lost to domestic Leonardo Mayer after long 6 hours and 42 minutes which made it the third longest match in the tennis history. On March 8th, Mayer defeated Souza 7:6(4), 7:6(5), 5:7, 5:7, at 3:13 p.m. after converting only the 12th match point. Mayer had three match points at 5:4, lost his serve, and the Brazilian was serving for the match. However, Souza did not repeat his Friday’s victory over Berlocq in five sets…
Mayer wasted three match points at 9:8 and failed to covert another four chances in the 24th game, but he eventually won the 12th match point at 14:13. The match between Mayer and Souza has been the longest match on clay and the third longest one in the tennis history. The only longer matches have been played between John Isner and Nicolas Mahut in 2010 at Wimbledon (11 hours and 5 minutes) and between Tomáš Berdych and Lukáš Rosol vs. Stan Wawrinka and Mark Chiudinllim at Davis Cup two years ago (7 hours and 2 minutes).
