Eight match-points was not enough

03.06.2015 10:23:11 | The final match on the Centre Court on Tuesday presented an attractive clash between two members of the Slovak Davis Cup team: Martin Kližan (36th ATP) and Norbert Gombos (103rd ATP). It was their first head-to-head match and, on top of that, Kližan is the top seed of the UniCredit Czech Open! Gombos is defending his last year’s participation in the finals and seventy five ATP points. The crowd could enjoy great tennis, definitely the best that has so far been played at the tournament.

There was a number of turning points in the course of all three sets and especially in the final tie-break. Norbert Gombos had eight and Kližan three match-points in the match. How did Gombos save them? The net helped him once, then he served an ace, and Kližan gifted him by a double fault. Kližan converted the fourth match-point thanks to Gombos’s forehand fault… Forehand faults eventually decided and Kližan won.
