Ghem of Brazil sent Mertl home and Tuesday’s tournament schedule will present the remaining three Czechs: Štěpánek, Pavlásek, and Veselý. Radek Štěpánek will play the second match at the Centre Court against Mathieu of France which will be followed by Jiří Veselý vs. Fucsovics of Hungary. Adam Pavlásek is playing the third match on Court No. 1 against Lajovic of Serbia.
The first match on Court No. 1 will also be of interest. Laslo Djer is clashing Laaksonen of Switzerland. Djere of Serbia, then representing the Prostějov club, helped the TK AGROFERT team win the champion title two years ago after beating Ymer of Sweden! Last but not least, Martin Kližan of Slovakia, the first seed, is meeting his colleague from the Davis Cup team and the last year’s finalist Norbert Gombos. They have not played against each other yet and Prostějov will see their first head-to-head match. Kližan played in Prostějov six years ago where he lost to Tomáš Berdych in the quarter-finals.
Kližan has already been at the 24th place in the world ranking. He lost to the domestic player Simon in the second round in Paris this year, made it through to the semi-finals in Barcelona in which he was defeated by Nishikori of Japan. He won the tournament in Casablanca in which he beat Gimeno-Traver of Spain in the finals.
