04.06.2014 18:50:55 | Norbert Gombos of Slovakia (158th in ATP ranking) is the last quarterfinalist. He beat the second-seeded Dutch Robin Haas in three sets. What did the winner say about his way to the quarterfinals? “I thought I had a chance from the beginning. I concentrated on my serve and kept it till 5:5. Then I made some mistakes, he broke my serve and I finally lost the set 5:7. I played more aggressively in the second set which worked better for me. I broke his serve twice and won the set. In the third set, I hurried with the serve but then I changed my racket and played better. It was a pity I did not keep my serve at 5:3. I was a little unlucky, but I’m glad I finally won.“
What does Gombos think about some expert’s opinion that the winner of the match is sure to make it to the finals? “It’s hard to say. I have to play well right from the beginning of the match. I only concentrate on the quarterfinals now,“ said the happy winner. In the match for a spot in the semis, Gambos is facing Julian Reister of Germany who beat his native Bachinger in three sets. Gombos also played well at the challenger in Vicenze. He only lost to Serbian Filip Krajinovic in the finals. He was also a runner up in the finals in Cherbourg in which he lost to Kenny de Schepper of France.
