08.06.2013 13:51:22 | Upon winning the title at UniCredit Czech Open, Radek Stepanek received EUR 15,300 (approx. CZK 394,000) and donated a half of that amount for the recovery of the flooded premises of his parent Sparta Club in Prague. Lukas Rosol, Florian Mayer of Germany, and Jarkko Nieminen of Finland also made a donation. “Helping Sparta was a special motivation for me. Sparta has been through hard times due to the recent flood. I’m glad that thanks to the victory I can provide financial help to the place where I practice when I’m home. Sparta provides me with perfect conditions and it’s my pleasure to help them,“ Radek Stepanek says.
„Other players were not indifferent either. They joined me and also made a donation from their prize money. They’ve been repeatedly invited to Prostejov for years and they know the two clubs are like communicating vessels. Having seen the photographs, each of them contributed according to their means. In my opinion, any such aid is indispensable at this time because it’s a huge disaster. I myself have been through it at my parent’s in Prerov in 1997 and I also experienced the flood in Prague in 2002. I know what I’m talking about. I’m glad there’re people that can help at such times. I strongly believe that Sparta will be as nice as it used to be soon.“
