06.06.2013 10:44:40 UniCredit Czech Open: Four Czechs in Quarterfinals

06.06.2013 10:44:40 | Thursday's program of the 20th anniversary UniCredit Czech Open will see quarterfinal singles matches, and the doubles players clashing for the finals. Czech tennis players have one place guaranteed: Lukas Rosol faces Jiri Vesely in the second match. He finished late in the evening yesterday. It was only after 10 p.m. when the tie-break against Jack Sock of America decided that the Czech player would advance to the next round. In the third set, Vesely failed to keep his lead at 3:4 and having lost two services he was losing 3:4. Then, he leveled up to 4:4, but he became nervous at 15:40 and faced additional break balls. He managed to withstand those thanks to his active approach and Sock became nervous. He started to have frequent contentious discussions with the chair umpire who remained firm and the American was losing even more concentration. He served a number of double-faults. On the other hand, Vesely strong-mindedly pursued victory in tie-break. Sock refused to shake hands with the chair umpire after the match. He shouted out loud that the chair should be ashamed to take money for such work. Sock surely has a great career ahead of him. However, it is his unrestrained temper that may put him down. The more Vesely was taking over, the less focused Sock was becoming.

First, Radek Stepanek is facing the fourth-seeded Albert Montañés on the Central Court. Radek won a hard match vs. Jan Mertl yesterday which was also decided as late as in the third set. "Every victory counts and you must sometimes win showing a poor performance to set a basis for a better one. And I hope this is the case. You must go through such matches," said Stepanek who has won two matches in a row for the first time after his neck surgery in January. Radek Stepanek also plays for Sparta in Prostejov. The tennis courts and locker rooms of his parent club in Stromovka in Prague have been damaged by the flood and the Davis Cup representative is going to donate a half of the prize money that he wins at UniCredit Czech Open for repairs. Having advanced to the quarterfinals, he has already earned over 40 thousand Czech Crowns for Sparta. It was very complicated for Jan Hajek who faced Dzumhur of Bosnia and Herzegovina yesterday. The opponent was serving for the match; however, Hajek's vigor turned everything upside down. The match of Ramos of Spain vs. Gojowczyk is to be the last today's match on the Central Court.
