09.06.2012 15:11:25 | Petra Langrova has been in charge of Prostejov tournament for the fourth time. How satisfied was she with its level? “I’m glad that Mr. Kunert enjoyed the tournament and I’d like to thank him for his kind words. We’ve been really unlucky with the weather this year. There was a period of intense drought before the tournament, not a single drop of rain fell for about six weeks. Unfortunately, the weather conditions were completely different during the week of the tournament. We managed to cope with the situation thanks to the closing roof. This year’s tournament has undoubtedly been the best in the history as far as the competitors are concerned. We’ve never had such good-quality players here. I’m also happy for the Czech players to have succeeded here: Radek Stepanek got very far in Prostejov again, and Jan Hajek played in the finals.”
Florian Mayer represents us in Extra League and that’s why we can say with little exaggeration that it was a Czech finals. I would like to thank to the titular partner, UniCredit Bank, and in particular to Mr. Kunert. Cooperation with the Czech Tennis Club was flawless and I’d like to thank to my organizational team who’ve done an incredible job. Special thanks to Mirek Cernosek because without him the tournament wouldn’t have happened.”
Not only had we the best seeds at Prostejov Challenger this year, the other players, too, were of very high quality. “We try hard to have the first eight seeds from the top hundred. We were very lucky this year that the players who are far beyond the top hundred or even beyond the top thousand also showed excellent tennis here. It is to say that men’s tennis levels up by great deal and ranking is not the only factor. Semjan had three match points against the top-seeded Youzhny last year and he knocked out Verdasco this year. He ranked close to the second hundred last year. Then, he didn’t play for six months and dropped down the rankings. Jaroslav Pospisil, who has many fans here in Prostejov, is another typical example. He has a lower ranking because he didn’t manage to back up the points from the last year. Therefore, we shouldn’t wonder why a higher-ranking player do not always beat the lower-ranking ones.”
