08.06.2012 16:06:52 | Twenty-eight year old Florian Mayer, winner of nine challengers, proved the experts right to be one of the hot favorites of UniCredit Czech Open. He beat tall Jerzy Janowitz of Poland twice 7:5, and always decided the match at the end of individual sets. The twenty-year old Pole hit the service at the speed of 200 km per hour. How did Mayer comment the young Pole’s performance? “He had nothing to lose and it always makes it easier to play. He had unbelievable chances, served really well, and he played winners from the base line all over the court. All in all, it was a very tough match for me. I had to wait for my chance and luckily it came at five love in both sets.“
How does Mayer see today’s match as compared to the quarter-finals against Montanese of Spain? “Yesterday’s rallies were played at great pace. Today, I had to wait for my chances. Let alone I was very tired from yesterday. Luckily, today’s match wasn't very long, it only took one hour and twenty minutes.“ What are his expectations for the finals? “It will surely be a tough match. Jan has won three times here and he’s in a good shape. I have to play good tennis if I want to have a chance tomorrow,“ says Mayer.
