After a promissing start, Jaroslav Pospisil failed to bring the match with Cipolla (ITA) to a successful end. He won the opponent’s service at 3:1, was winning 4:1, but then lost his service and let his opponent back in the game. “I was winning 3:0 yesterday and 4:1 today. Then, he won my service in a straight game and, all of a sudden, it was all gone. Later, I had a break point to 5:2 but I missed it and the score was 4:3. At 5:3, I was winning 30:0 and I was two points from victory and then 5:4 and 40:15 and I had two match points! In both cases, Cipolla played a drop shot. I usually don’t lose such shots, but this time I lost both of them. It really was a pity,“ said Pospisil after the match.
“But I was still fighting and trying hard. I wouldn’t say it put me down. I even started the tiebreak well but then I easily lost three points and never returned to the game. I lost even though everything was developing well.“ What was decisive? “I did not serve well, it did not help much. Let alone I do not favor Cipolla’s style.
