11.05.2011 15:58:02 | The eighteenth year of UniCredit Czech Open will be held in Prostejov in the second week of Roland Garros, defending Champion Jan Hajek who won on centre court of National Czech Centre Morava this tournament in 2006 and 2009 too. Seven Czech players won this tournament in its seventeenth years history (3 Jan Hajek, 2 Bohdan Ulihrach and 2 Radek Stepanek), three Argentine´s titles (Coria, Roitmann and Calleri), two Australian titles (2 Fromberg), other Champions include Slovak Kucera, Italian Gaudenzi, Russian Cesnokov, Swede Vinciguera and Finn Nieminen.
Why UniCredit Czech Open has kept such a prestige during long-term history? „It’s very pleasant and motivated to organized the biggest tennis tournament in Czech Republic. If we look back, we repeatedly fought for going right way against officials and media, many times we had to defend our tournament philosophy. It emerged that we were right, we went up step by step within our possibilities,“ says chief of Prostejov tennis club Miroslav Cernosek. Only dreamers and marketing managers can still think that Czech tennis needs a big millionaire’s tournament. „After all some of megalomania’s tennis projects which didn’t comply with power of Czech economy, naturally failed. We were extremely lucky in perfect partnership with Zivnostenska Bank later UniCredit Bank, in premeditation and visionary generosity of Jirka Kunert. Thanks to persistence, purposefulness and patience of Zivnostenska Bank, this tournament has its reputation all around the world and players are glad to come back again. I emphasized many times that attendance of the best Czech tennis players is very important for this level of tournament, especially players from Prostejov,“ says Cernosek.
Yes, this time Czech tennis will be represented by Czech players again in Prostejov, as annually we expect very attractive associated events.
