03.06.2010 08:08:05 | Thursdays program is usually the most attractive for spectators at many tournaments. The quarter finals are played and they promise fierce fights for promotion among the best four players.
Defending champion Jan Hajek is going to play against the Spaniard Ramos-Vinolas who beat seed no. 3, Romanian Hanescu. Ramos-Vinolas demonstrated a solid performance from the baseline and Jan Hajek will have to be very patient. "I am doing well so far and I believe I will go on. I feel good playing in Prostejov, the audience is fine and the atmosphere is optimistic despite the rain." It must be admitted that weather is unusually cold for the beginning of June but Hajek says Munich was even colder; the temperature there was about eight degrees only.
In the second match on Centre Court Belgian Olivier Rochus will clash with Kazakh Golubev who showed his powers in the Wednesdays match against Czech Hernych. The Prostejov’s audience is also very interested whether Radek Shtepanek will be able to advance, everybody wishes him good luck but for him it will be very difficult to beat Jarrko Nieminen. The Finn has been demonstrating flawless performance with extreme pressure exerted from the base-line so far.
But let us not forget the fourth Czech in the quarterfinals, Jaroslav Pospishil from the home club TK Agrofert Prostejov, who is one of the most pleasant surprises of the tournament. He got promoted into the tournament from the qualification and his victory over an experienced American Russel in the first round is a very precious result. He plays against Portuguese Frederic Gil at Centre Court at 1.00 a.m.
Let’s hope that weather will calm down in Hana region again and UniCredit Czech Open will be able to continue uninterruptedly. "It was difficult for everybody but I think we have overcome the worst," says the tournament director Petra Pichalova-Langrova.
