A player of the home club of TK Agrofert Prostějov, Jan Hajek, became the first Czech quarterfinalist after he defeated Rui Machad, no. 104 of ATP Ranking, 6:4, 7:6.
"I clashed with Machad a year ago in Athens. He is neither pleasant nor popular player. He gets furious easily; he tries to break the game to pieces and looks for any possibility to irritate his opponents. I was quite aware I had to push hard on him from the very beginning to let him know who was to be a master on the court," said happy Hajek after the match. In the quarter final he will clash with a winner of the duel Hanescu versus Ramos-Vinolas. Hanescu hasn’t won yet but he is a hot favourite of the match. "Currently, Victor Hanescu is the player no. 30 of ATP ranking. In quarterfinals of such a well staffed tournament as UniCredit Czech Open you can never clash with an easy opponent," added Hajek.
