31.05.2010 10:38:47 | Head of tennis club in Prostejov, Miroslav Czernoshek, tournament director, Petra Pichalova-Langrova, and the club’s head coach, Jaroslav Navratil, did a great job again. They contacted first selected players already at the tournament in Miami and the final starting list was closed during the first week of Rolland Garros.
"It must be said that our event has a good reputation, players know the environment our tournament offers and many high quality players applied for the participation in the event themselves," said the tournament director.
And how did it turn out? All seeds are in the top 100 ATP ranking, seed no. 1 is Radek Shtepanek, no. 2 Spaniard Alberto Montanes, no. 3 Romanian Victor Hanescu. All these seeded players were given a free card while the fourth free card was given to a young talent Robert Rumler – it is only understandable if we realize that the tournament’s philosophy is to provide space and opportunities for young promising players. Let us remind that the rules of the challenger category state that no TOP 10 players of ATP Ranking are allowed to take part in the event, players between 11th and 50th position can play only with a free card received from the organizers and the remaining players form 51st position are free to apply for participation.
Despite these limitations our tournament has ranked among the best events of the kind for many seasons.
