05.06.2009 15:02:38 | Jan Hajek, winner of Prostejov challenger in 2006, advanced to the final of UniCredit Czech Open 2009. In the semi-final he defeated the Italian Starace in two sets.
“If somebody told me before qualification I would get to the final I would have answered it would not be possible. On the other hand, I played quite well in last few weeks and I think I may even win the tournament in the end.”
So is he satisfied with his appearance at UniCredit Czech Open?
“Not yet. I will be absolutely satisfied only if succeed in the final.”
Which opponent does he wish for the final match?
“Of course, Tomas. First, we are very good friends, second, we both play in Prostejov thus the championship would remain at home.”
Many people say if there were more tournaments in the CR Hajek would rank among the world’s top 50 easily.
“It is true I enjoy playing before the home audience and I also have a lot of friends in Prostejov. All this was on my side today. I entered the match with power of a flood, I even surprised myself, but then the game equalized and it was a difficult match.”
High number of set points in the first set and the match points in the second one?
“I made it too difficult for me, I had seven set points in the first set and used only the fourth match point in the second one. It is true; I could play the endings of sets better and finish a little earlier.”
